Sage Gateshead is a concert venue and also a centre for musical education situated on the south bank of the river Tyne in Gateshead in a distinctive curved glass and stainless steel building. Sage Gateshead opened in 2004 at a cost of £70 million. Sage Gateshead is home to Royal Northern Sinfonia however it's programme of concerts includes rock, pop, dance, hip hop, classical, jazz, acoustic, indie, country and world music.

Sage Gateshead also offers practice spaces for professional musicians, students and amateurs who make use of Sage Gateshead's twenty individual, largely sound-proofed rooms one of which is also a recording studio.

Sage Gateshead also operates as a conference venue, previously hosting the Labour Party's spring conference in February 2005; the National Union of Students national conference in 2010 and 2011 and the Liberal Democrat Party conference in March 2012.

Sage Gateshead contains three performance spaces Sage One a 1,700 seat auditorium, Sage Two a 450 seat auditorium and a smaller rehearsal and performance hall, the Northern Rock Foundation Hall.

Sage One was intended as an acoustically perfect space, modelled on the renowned Musikverein in Vienna. Its ceiling panels may be raised and lowered and curtains drawn across the ribbed wooden side walls to change the sound profile of the room to suit any type of music.

Sage Two is a smaller venue, possibly the world's only ten-sided performance space.

Sage Gateshead is open to the public throughout the day and visitors can see rehearsals, soundchecks and workshops in progress. Sage Gateshead has five bars, a brasserie, the Sir Michael Straker Café and The Barbour Room a multi-purpose function room which holds around 200 people.

Tours of The Sage are available at a cost of £5 per person for public tours and £7 per person for a private tour.
